I'm about to celebrate half a century of preaching, teaching, and nagging on radio. Pretty wild, huh? I'm taking what I've learned over the course of these incredible years on the road with a series of special live stage performances beginning in Glendale, California this October 26th and 27th. If you've ever been to one of my events, you know I spend a good amount of time answering audience questions. And while I may be doing some of that, Dr.
Dr. Laura, what I've learned, will be much more autobiographical. Whether you've been a listener for all five decades or just a few months, you'll come away knowing more about me and what it has meant to be part of your life through the Dr. Laura program. Tickets are on sale now for the Saturday and Sunday, October 26th and 27th shows at Alex Theatre in Glendale, California.
Get the details and your tickets now at drlaura.com slash event. That's drlaura.com slash event. Time now for a refresher from my Dr. Laura Call of the Day archives. Remember, you can hear my live radio program weekdays, 2 to 5 p.m. Eastern Time on Sirius XM Triumph 111. Brittany, welcome to the program. Hi, Dr. Laura. So good to talk with you. Thank you.
What's up? Well, I noticed, and I'm 22 years old, so I'm just now coming into this whole adult thing. And I've realized any time that I'm meeting with conflict or I'm still living at home with my parents, and if they're having issues,
Not really good conversation. And it's getting loud and stuff. Or my brother, they're getting on to my brother about something. My brother is 17. And I just...
I want to run away from it. Like, I have a really hard time, like, facing conflict or dealing with that. Oh, wait a minute, wait a minute, wait a minute, wait a minute, wait a minute, wait a minute. There's a difference between avoiding conflict, like if you and I had an issue to deal with and you didn't want to deal with the issue, that's avoiding conflict. Watching two people lose control and not be nice to each other and having a third party, your brother, in the middle of it, you wanting to leave is not avoiding conflict.
It's not the same category, but I would like to recommend a course of action. Okay. Managing your health can be difficult, but pharmacy delivery from Walmart now makes it easier. And affordable luxury is what I've discovered with quints, like 100% Mongolian cashmere sweaters from 50 bucks, 14-carat gold jewelry, and washable silk tops and dresses, which is really cool because then you save a lot on dry cleaning.

I think you should say out loud to your parents at that very moment that they're really into it and say, I'm going to leave the house now because it's intolerable to be around you two when you fight and get mean with each other. And it hurts my brother too. So I'll see you later. Hopefully by four o'clock you'll be done with this. And you leave. That's not entering into a conflict. That's making an announcement that their conflict is
is destructive to people around them so that they can take some responsibility. They'll be stunned. They'll be very surprised because people, like parents usually involved in that sort of stuff, really don't give a thought to the impact it's having on anybody else because they both feel very righteous at their moment to defend whatever it is they think they're defending. So entering into this adult stuff that you said, that was very cute, you need to start taking adult actions.
So you'll notice I didn't raise my voice. I didn't say anything mean. It wasn't nasty. It was just a proclamation that I am now leaving the house because it's unbearable to be here when you guys are arguing and yelling and being mean to each other in front of my brother and hurting him. So I'll be back at four. Hopefully you'll be done with this. You turn around and you leave.
What do you think the topic of conversation will be when you leave? It won't be that they continue the same BS that they've been doing. They'll be both shell-shocked and blaming each other. And it will have an impact. So if you're entering the adult realm, I have to ask you to do adult behaviors. And that's one of them. Deal with it in a non-emotional way and just do it. Just do it. Like you're reprimanding two bratty kids.
But what you're saying is I'm leaving now because. Okay. This is you entering adult stuff. Okay. Thank you so much, Dr. Laura. You're very welcome, sweetheart.
