Today, on the a daily brief, X, A, I has launched an A, P, I and many more stories. A daily brief is a daily podcast and video about the most important news and discussions in A I. To join the conversation, follow the discard link in our show notes.
Walk back to the AI daily brief headlines edition. All the daily AI news you need in around five minutes today, because I am traveling, we are doing an extended headlines edition. So basically the entire episode will be headlines will be a little bit more about cover a few more topics, but there won't be a headlines and main episode division.
We will be back to more Normal formats later in the week, we kick off with some news out of X A I, which has launched their API to allow developers to build on top of the companies is brock models. The apps can access grog two and grog two mini, which are the latest multi model models from X A I. Developers can also generate images using black force labs flux one division model.
Now, some early users were reporting difficulty accessing anything other than a model referred to as grog beta as, so there could still be some teething issues going on. This lunch moves X A I from early beta testing to a point where they are now openly competing against OpenAI and other foundation models. At the moment, IT appears that X A I is Priced almost twice the cost of GPT four o although IT still comes in well below open a eyes reasoning model a one got to is documented as feature complete on powers with other models, including text and code generation, as well as vision to process image inputs.
The alem also supports function calling. That said, these features aren't fully available yet and have no current timeline for release. This is an important moment in many ways because there are such a small number of companies that actually have the ability to compete when IT comes to foundation models.
And up until now, we really haven't seen what X I is capable. Love rock and rock two have been live with twitter flash x for some time, but mostly get used to provide new summaries or generate images. That said, X A I is moving very quickly.
The company raised six billion in may at a twenty four billion dollar valuation and immediately poured the money into one of the fastest and largest data center projects in history, building a one hundred and fifty mea training super cluster. The first training run has reportedly begun with X, A, I training their next model on one hundred thousand eight, one hundreds. The big promise, of course, from this A P I N X A I in general, is the ability to access and train on x data.
That means the model has real time access to social media feed, which presumable you would think developers would find some interesting, unique thing to build using that data. Some of the most interesting details about the effort came from founding X A I employee toby pollen, who said that the entire system was written from scratched by six engineers over four months, which is a pretty insane effort. Ultimately, I think developers are excited to have another option and just thrown for more competition.
Next up, we turn to a recent survey from K P M. G. The company released its latest digital innovation quarterly poll survey and handsome, interesting insights around geni adoption in the enterprise vice chair, vi and digital innovation Steve chase some up the result saying despite trending scepticism in the media around N A, business leaders overwhelmingly see IT is truly transformative.
More and more, we're seeing levels, investment in tech, data and talent to support geni that matches the potential disruption on the horizon. I don't think you guys need me to tell you that I completely agree with that sentiment. I basically spent the entire summer explaining why the skepticism headlines were just that headlines.
But a couple of the interesting things from this survey. There's a lot of focus on A I leadership. One of the stats that I thought was most interesting was that forty two percent of leaders have or are planning to hire new A I leadership, which is up from twenty seven percent the previous quarter.
What's more, IT seems like leaders are leading when IT comes to AI training. Seventy percent of leaders have participated in Mandatory AI training compared to only twenty eight percent of employees. Another interesting note, fifty two percent of executive managers are using ga versus twenty percent of entry level employees.
In fact, this study shows a reverse distribution where the more senior you are, the more likely to be using gene I U R, which is a statistic that I would love to push more into. On the one hand, I can see this making sense from the standpoint that IT is executives that are getting the most pressure to transform and remake their organizations for the A. I era.
But at the same time, I wouldn't be surprised if some of those reported numbers are soft and reflect the trend that we've seen over and over again of employees not being sure that they're actually willing to talk about their AI usage for variety of reasons. Anyway, interesting stuff in that survey. Definitely worth checking out.

To learn more about this, A I enable ment network. And now back to the show next up. Another big femi enterprise is, of course, agents. And yesterday, microsoft announced that they called new agented capabilities, including ten new autonomists agents and dynamic three, six, five focus on sales, service and supply chain teams.
Now, one of the interesting things about this is that some folks have tried to draw a sharp contrast between the assistant era of A I and the agent era of ai. Chief among those is mark benning, off from sales force, whose current press line is basically that microsoft has sold the world bill of goods and that assistance aren't really all that valuable. But where will really get business value is in the agent experience.
And no, by the way, of course, check out sales forces agents. Unsurprisingly, probably, I think that the agent versus assistant thing is not actually in either or. It's to both and and you're going to see both of these experiences impacting enterprising different ways.
That said, of course, agency a lot earlier in their life cycle, whereas are some pretty break out into fault and regular use cases of assistance agents are really still getting up and running at this point, although certainly in areas like customer service are starting to become more day. We grow and Normal. There will be a lot to watch on the agent experience, if you're interested.
Something that i'm thinking about for at some point this year is a week long or so deep dive into the agent world, which might be something that we look at doing in december. Next up, we've had a lot of funding coverage for perplexity recently as Frankly, the product kicks pot and the company seems to be doing great as well. But they are not without struggles, amplified by yet another lawsuit against the company, copyright infringement on monday, news corp.
P suit perplexity for allegedly quote, engaging in a massive amount of illegal copyright of publishers, copyright works and diverting customers and critical revenues away from those copyholds ers. The plaintives include down Jones, who publish the world trade journal, and the new york post perplexity C E O are of untrue. Of us declined to comment on the lawsuit.
However, did tweet check out W S J dom where they had paid for a front page ad about perplexity partnership with uber? One of the things that makes the perplexity copyright cases different and interesting from, for example, those being levied OpenAI. Is that they're more about how the A I summary overviews take away in cos material harm to journalistic production verses those publishers having problems with the way that their material has been used in training.
It's a super interesting wrinkle on the copyright question and one that I think the answer to, which could have a significant impact on how the industry evolves. Austin Smith pointed out that while starters may be defined about these lawsuits, they could have real consequences. He writes LLM content cost about the sky rocket.
This is an advantage for google. They have the advertiser based to monetize today. The others do not raising capital to fund and saying losses is easy today. But let's circle back in a year staying on the copyright and training theme.
The largest book publisher in the world, pink, when random house, has changed their copyright page to reject AI training, the standard page e in both new and reprinted books will now read, and no part of this book may be used to reproduce that any manner for the purpose training artificial intelligence technologies or systems, the page also states to work is expressly reserve from the text and data mining exception of reference to eu data laws. Penguin random houses, the first major publisher to make this changes, the battle around A I copyright heads up the verge rights. What is printed on that page might be a warning shot, but is also has little to do with actual copyright law.
The amended page is sort of like pink in random houses version of a robot start T, X, T file, which websites will sometimes used to ask I companies and other to describe their, but robot at T, X, T isn't illegal mechanism is a voluntarily adopted norm across the web. Copyright protections exist regardless of what of the copyright slipped into the front of the book. And fair use in other defences also exist, even if the write holder say they do not.
Basically, nothing about this changes the fact that this is going to have to be settled in court. Author coi doctor wrote a long thread on packing the takes, commenting, these writers are assuming that just because they're on P R ages side, P R ages on their side, they assuming that A P R H fights against A I companies training bots on their work for free, that this means P R H won't allow bots to be trained on their work at all. This is a pretty nave take what far more likely as that P R H will use whatever legal rites that has to insist that A I companies pay for the rights to train chat pots on the box, right?
IT is vanishingly unlikely that P R H will share license money with the writers, with books are shovelled into the box. Training hopper is also extremely likely that P R H will use the chat box to a road or wages and E, S, all together, and replace our work. I'm always a little bit hesitant to cover these very introspective battles when IT comes to copy, right? Because I said a million times and will unfortunately keep saying no amount chat on twitter and no amount of pages on books is going to solve these are cases that are going to get litigated in court and Frankly, not going to be done until they get up at the supreme court.
Over in the world of A I and financed security and exchange commission is cracking down on the use of A I in the financial sector. The division of examination publish their priorities next year with A I integration features heavily throughout investment advisors, brokers and clearing agencies can expect the S, C, C, to scrutiny their use of vy I to ensure IT me regulating standards. So far during this pace of adoption, the S C C is largely focused on active is representations and fraud around a eye.
In march, the regulators IT to asset managers for making allegedly false claims about their AI and hands training. Or just last week, the S C, C robotics company for making misleading statements. Air power robot.
This will be the first time that the S C, C takes a closer look at the way compliant financial firms are using A I and their business. The agency will focus on things like adequate revision and risk to customer records and information through the use of their party tools for advisor reforms using A I to generate investment strategies. The S.
C, C will be looking at whether these recommendations fit the high standards demanded registered advisors. Basically, I think that this serves as a warning notice that the chat ter is becoming real. And if the sec is going to put a strong emphasis on figuring out the relationship of A I in finance later today, uncle sam wants you to join the A I reserve corn.
The defense department is seeking to bring silicon valley's top talent into the military reserves. According to the water street journal quote, the department is considering asking chief technology officers and other senior tech professionals to take up high ranking positions in the reserves. The tech 2 service would be periodically summed to help with short term projects in cyber security datanet yd s in other areas, parameter of the department's chief talent management officer said.
We're creating these people industrial base that is going to help us solve our national security problems and national security chAllenges in the decades to come. While the marines already have a recruiting program for cybersecurity specialists, this would be the first time the tech specialists are brought in as paid reserve sts commitments would be in line with the seven hundred thousand combat reserves to attend training. When we get to months in two weeks a year are eligible to be called up for active duty, which wouldn't be a case for the specialized tech reservists, per matter said.
It's not like put down your keyboard and pick up a rifle. Matter hopes to have the first group of military rules by september. The scope will start extremely small with just a reservists.
However, he hopes to expand the programme of thousands over the coming years. Some of the tRicky issues are figuring out which brands of the military should houses unit and how to appropriate rank senior private sector executives once they join up. This is all part of a broader pushed to rethink the military is relationship with the tech world and to more effectively compete for top town with the private sector. What's more, it's certainly online with a broader shift that happening right now where things that we're previously an athlete, including using tech for defense purposes, have become some of today's host projects that, however, is is going to do for today's a daily brief. Appreciate your listings or watching as always and until next time peace.
